Translation
Woe, woe so much of our grief
The majority of his days filled with pain and suffering
[Yet] He always walked in the path of the upright
He prevented himself from (doing) evil
A watchman over the worthiness of those who were poor
[ ] My son was taken in my iniquity
The teacher Avraham Shaul
The son of the teacher Peretz who departed on the 20th of Kislev
5693 (1933) May His soul be bound in the bonds of
Eternal life.
Line 5 - This is a literal translation – the word שקד means watchman, דלת refers to the poor, and חשיבות refers to the poor. The thrust, I believe, is that he was a watchman over the importance of tending to those whowere poor.
Line 6 - This is again simply a guess. I have chosen to translate בני to mean my son and בעונני as my infliction based on עון which means affliction and the suffix ending י to be a possessive. Other translations are possible.
