Grodno, Belarus

Grodno is located in the northwest corner of Belarus and represents the third largest populated city in the country (pop. ~320,000). Due to its location, it served the team as a perfect base to conduct work in Kamenka (40 km away). A total of five days and five nights were spent in the Grodno region. When not on homestays in Kamenka, the group stayed in a local hotel. In the afternoons and evenings, the the team visited the Great Grodno Synagogue, spoke with Grodno Ghetto survivor Grigory Chasid, visited the local castle, and took walking tours with university students. After work days in Kamenka, much of the free time was spent in the city. It gave the participants a clear picture of cultural life in a post Soviet country like Belarus.
